PPI stable in June

Producer price inflation (PPI) remained stable in June, according to Statistics SA on Thursday.

PPI measures the increase in factory gate prices.

For June, the annual rate of change in PPI was measured at 6.6 percent.

"This rate is the same as the corresponding annual rate of +6.6 percent in May 2012," Stats SA said.

Agricultural inflation increased from 1.7 percent annually in May to 2.2 percent in June.

Wood and wood product inflation accelerated from an annual 3.6 percent in May to 4.7 percent in June.

Basic metal inflation increased from -3.4 percent in May to -2.5 percent in June.

However, inflation decreased in several other categories.

Mining and quarrying inflation decreased from 8.4 percent in May to 6.9 percent in June.

Petroleum and coal products inflation decreased from 12 percent in May to 7.7 percent in June.

Food and manufacturing inflation decreased from 8.4 percent in May to 7.7 percent in June.

Paper inflation decreased from 5.8 percent in May to 5.6 percent in June, while apparel inflation dropped from 5.5 percent to 3.3 percent.
