It has a mere 25 000 kilometres on the clock and by giving Mastercars sales manager Gil de Klerk  a call on 083 324 3776 or 011 609 1192 she will let you have this absolute stunner with literally no mileage on it for R299 990.

This includes sunroof and Xenon lights. And aboard the GTI are features that cannot be found on any other Golf model.

They include top-notch Vienna leather sport seats, leather gearshift grip with aluminium trim, black accents, leather sport steering wheel with GTI logo that is flatter at the bottom and a black roof liner.

Identifying this Golf as a GTI on the exterior – besides the styling specifications – are details like standard 18-inch Detroit alloy wheels, red  brake callipers, chrome tailpipes in the diffuser and smoked tail lights.

PEDALS

All GTIs come with stainless steel pedals, automatic climate control and front fog lights including turning light.

This is also the car that most people aspire to  own. The Golf GTI is one of the most successful cult cars in the history of Volkswagen in South Africa – over 37 000 units sold in nearly three decades.

The first generation Golf GTI was launched in South Africa in November 1982 and  pioneered the hot hatch category. The 1.8 litre engine had a power output of 82 kW with a top speed of 182 km/h and accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 9.3 seconds.

This latest GTI  chassis systems – with standard electronic transverse differential lock (XDS) – redefines behaviour at the track and on the road, and runs a powerful 155 kW turbo engine with a top speed of 240 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of only 6.3 seconds.

To put this in perspective. Although this GTI ‘only’ makes 155 kW when married to 280 Nm of torque from as low as 1 700 rpm all the way up to 5 200 rpm, it cleans up all its  more powerful competition – like Ford’s Focus ST and the Opel Astra OPC.

Most of this can be put down to the optional six-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG) that is fitted to this offering, all the while delivering an average fuel consumption of only 7.4 litres per 100 km.

Should this GTI not be enough for you, then you can look at the almost brand new 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35  for R359 990 with just 1 500 kilometres on the clock.

The special edition Golf GTI Edition 35 pays homage to success of the Mk1 icon.

With 173 kW of power, Edition 35 puts out 18 kW more than the standard Golf GTI at 155 kW. Similar to the current generation Golf GTI, it is front-wheel drive that is well supported by XDS electronic differential lock.

Its maximum torque of 300 Nm that is available between 2 200 to 5 500 rpm, allows it to reach a top speed of 247 km/h. The 100km/h mark is achieved in  6.6 seconds.
This Golf GTI Edition 35 is available with a standard six-speed manual transmission
