8/10 ABANQOBI – UDONDOLO (REVOLVER)

The beauty of Udondolo is that there are no instruments to mask any shortcomings, and instead the focus is squarely on singing ability. What is rather concerning, though is that the band seems to have approached some of the tracks as warm-up sessions, with some of the tracks (Icilongo and Bayede) not sounding as “ready” as, for instance the perfectly-pitched title track.

This album also reminds its listeners about the reasons  the group was formed: to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The message delivered by Abanqobi also touches on forgiveness and just how important it is not to focus too much on this world. – SM
