8/10 BETHEL MUSIC – THE LOFT SESSIONS (CHRISTIAN ART MEDIA)

Singer-songwriter-pastors Brian and Jenn Johnson run an acclaimed worship school, and worship leader Jeremy Riddle is a successful solo artist.

The songwriting, performance and production here are of the highest standard and the only “old” song (2010) included in the set, the excellent One Thing Remains receives an arrangement overhaul.

Brian and Jenn Johnson both have distinctive voices, helping the songs they lead to stand out – particularly true of the latter’s Come To Me.

In arrangement terms, this is far more than the cheerful strum-along it might’ve been in less capable hands, with subtle string arrangements, banjo interludes and more making each tune memorable, even before you’ve processed the lyrics.

Bethel Music also know how to make the most of relatively little – Angels is only five lines long. – BD
