Mother picks right key, wins new home
27 July 2012 | CITIZEN REPORTER
A JOHANNESBURG mother of three was excited after winning a new home on Friday.
Modelin Leeuw, 39, had the winning key which opened the door to her portable home in Krugersdorp.
Leeuw, who works at a pre-school in Observatory immediately called her husband, Peter, to share the good news with him.
Duro Aluminium and Steel had been running a competition last week and handing out soup, beanies and gloves to train commuters.
One hundred keys were also given to public participants, of which only one key was the winning key to the Vel’ekhaya home.
“Although we are a business that is profit driven, it is important for us to provide for our employees and the communities we serve,” said Duro CEO, Greg Morris.
He said it was an absolute joy seeing the expression on Modelin’s face when her key opened up the door.
Vel’ekhaya, which means come home, is a portable house with a steel floor, an insulated panel system and windows with burglar bars.
“I can assure you that this will be the first of many initiatives we are involved in,” said Morris.
