JOHANNESBURG -“This winter, when the temperatures drop and you pull your comforting coat tighter around you and sip on a warm cup of coffee, spare more than just a thought for those in need, “ said Jacaranda FM”s Altus Venables.

Thousands have opened their hearts to this cause, aimed at collecting 100 000 blankets.

“Hoards of listeners have already dropped blankets at the Jacaranda FM studios on Samrand Avenue, in Polokwane, Riverside Mall and Emnotweni Casino”.

The South African Air Force College joined the fight against the cold, challenging all National Defence Force units to top their donation. On May 30, the radio station  raised more than R1.5 million during a Winter Warmer Corporate Challenge telethon.

“More than 40 celebrities including Steve Hofmeyr, Juanita du Plessis, Kurt Darren and Miss South Africa, Melinda Bam manned the phones to take pledges from companies and individuals”.

Amounts reached up to R50 000 for a pledge with calls all over the country.

These pledges assisted in raising 30 000 blankets.
