‘MEC should have been hidden for the day’
13 July 2012 | Joseph Peter Kgomo of Pretoria West
I was appalled to see the MEC for education in Limpopo, Dickson Masemola, singing near President Jacob Zuma in Shayandima during the Nelson Mandela memorial lecture.
I don’t know what the ANC was trying to achieve by making the man a programme director for that important day. Maybe the party is trying to tell us it’s comfortable with incompetence and mediocrity.
Masemola should have been hidden from the public for the day. In a true and a real democracy he would have been fired long ago.
Even worse, Zuma did not say anything about the educational problems that are facing the province at the moment.
Education is one of the matters close to Mandela’s heart and I think the sad state of things in Limpopo right now makes him want to return to Robben Island, this time for the freedom of pupils in Limpopo.
Former MK soldiers behaved like rebels in Limpopo by kicking out those who differed in view when it comes to the ANC’s vexing leadership battles.
I suspect that the former “ soldiers” are not genuine. They just wore the uniform for the ceremony. Thank God the “veterans” were not armed, otherwise things could have been worse for those who want change. And change is what the ANC needs at the moment.
