All aboard the gravy train for officials

So, four years later and it would appear that the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) haven’t learnt their lesson.

The last Olympic Games in Beijing ended on a sour note, not only with the team winning only one medal, but with allegations that officials abused their power.

It seems that Sascoc have set themselves up for ridicule for the upcoming event in London by naming a list of officials and support staff that works out to almost two athletes to one official.
How viable, or productive is this?

Is it really worth spending so much extra cash on officials instead of trying to fill the seats on the plane with athletes?

If our athletes win medals, which I hope they do, then this will be forgotten but another failure this time around will no doubt bring out the pitchforks and flaming torches.
