Benni, Josephs must taste obscurity

Bafana Bafana doesn’t need players like Benni McCarthy and Moeneeb Josephs, who appear to want to talk themselves into the national squad.

Benni wants the nation to forget how he used to snub us when we needed him and while he was still on top of his game.

But he wants to return now that he is a has-been.

He is part of the past, not the future. Bafana Bafana is  unlike Orlando Pirates, it is not a retirement home.

It is equally disappointing for Moeneeb to think that because his club won the league twice, that makes him the best goalkeeper in the country and subsequently Bafana’s first choice.

If that were the case, does it mean that the players of a club that wins the league are the best in their positions and  therefore should be in the national team?

Sundowns and SuperSport have won the league three times in a row each  and none  of their players are caught up in this senseless debate.

Soccer is a team sport and if Moeneeb can’t accept that then he can retire from international football.
