Post Breakfast Lunch is a coffee shop at 70 Juta Street, Braamfontein, whose foot traffic is steadily increasing because of its simplicity.

When you walk into the small space, it looks as if the owners threw out everything that did not need to be there and kept the absolute necessities. A coffee machine, basic kitchen utensils and limited chairs take up most of the space.

The rest of the floor area is cleverly taken up by nostalgic items like an old radio housed in a cupboard that is just as old, alongside a stack of vinyl records.
The owners know that there are so many other places that people can go to enjoy the finest food in town and drinking the most expensive drinks on the menu. So they concentrate on what they can do exceptionally well, which is simple food, good coffee and a mood-enhancing ambience.

Their menu is as concise as  a pocket dictionary, but everything on there is made with meticulous detail,  from the breakfast choices (French toast and flapjacks) to the homely lunch options that include varieties of rolls, bread and exactly one burger option.
It all amounts to quality over quantity.

What is even more pleasantly surprising (besides the more than decent prices) is the fact that the coffee shop doubles up as a venue for all things creative. This means that there are  always interesting pieces of art lying around that add flair to the space, which is essentially a plain, four-cornered room.

It is difficult to imagine such a small space being turned into a gallery or a private function venue, but Post Breakfast Lunch keeps on surprising with what can be done with very little.

And if all of this does not satisfy  your desires, the venue has a secret ingredient that is served in very few establishments: the perfect homemade lemonade.

Lemonade wraps up what this coffee shop is all about: if life gives you lemons (Braamfontein, for some people), make lemonade.
