Schoolboys arrested for stolen firearm

Three school boys were arrested at their school in Athlone on Wednesday, for possession of a stolen firearm, Cape Town police said. Warrant Officer Ian Bennett said the school principal called the police after he learnt that one of his pupils had a firearm at the school.

JOHANNESBURG  - Three school boys were arrested at their school in Athlone on Wednesday, for  possession of a stolen firearm, Cape Town police said.  Warrant Officer Ian Bennett said the school principal called the police after  he learnt that one of his pupils had a firearm at the school.

The police searched the school area and identified a pupil who possibly had the firearm in his possession.

“The learner was approached and as they were about to search him he walked back into the class room and threw a red coloured bag through the classroom window.”

A Lorcin 7.65 pistol with four rounds of ammunition was found in the bag.
The firearm was reported stolen in Mitchells Plain.

Three boys aged 15 to 17 were arrested, Bennett said.
