A Zimbabwean national was arrested in Brits for allegedly smuggling counterfeit cigarettes into the country, North West police said on Monday.

JOHANNESBURG - A Zimbabwean national was arrested in Brits for allegedly smuggling counterfeit cigarettes into the country, North West police said on Monday.

Lt-Col Lesego Metsi said police received a tip-off and arrested the 31-year-old man on Saturday.

He was arrested after he had parked his truck near the Brits Platinum Cluster, said Metsi.

The cigarettes had a street value of about R200,000.

He will appear in the Tlhabane Magistrate's Court on Monday.
