Post Office strike end in sight

There is a likelihood that the long protracted strike by labour broker employees at the SA Post Office (Sapo) might come to an end.

JOHANNESBURG - This will depend on whe- ther striking workers accept the employer’s latest offer.

A meeting between the employer and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) last Friday was described as “fruitful” by Sapo spokesman Khulani Qoma.

He said Sapo offered “improved” working conditions for temporary workers, but when asked to shed more light on the conditions, he replied: “At this stage, I cannot divulge further details around the conditions, as the union is still in the process of providing feedback to the striking workers.

“We are hoping things will return to normal soon, as we have made it clear that we still want the workers to resume with their duties.”

Meanwhile, it will only be known by tomorrow as to whether the striking workers have accepted the employer’s latest offer, or decided otherwise.

They (workers) warned during last week’s march in Braamfontein that they will march to the employer’s offices again should there be no response to the demands received  by today.
