Juglall enjoying latest victory
03 August 2012 | ROD KNIGHT
The national jockeys’ and apprentices’ titles are decided on the number of winners ridden in SA and Zimbabwe and Juglall, a 21-year-old Mauritian, put 78 of his career total 136 wins on the scoreboard last season.
He won another four races in Mauritius last season, which do not count towards his championship tally.
Juglall also won the first leg of the Phumelela Gold Apprentice Challenge with a total of 40 points, six more than second-placed Mandla Ntuli.
The young rider, who was born on July 22, 1991 and joined the South African Jockeys’ Academy in 2009 to learn his trade at the best “riding school’’ on the continent, recorded the biggest win of his career to date when booting The Mouseketeer to victory in the Grade 2 Emerald Cup, Africa’s richest race on the sand.
The Mouseketeer, who also won the August Stakes for Juglall, is co-owned by popular SuperSport presenter Neil Andrews and is trained by Sean Tarry.
