Plan ‘to chase blacks away’
03 August 2012 | ILSE DE LANGE
JOHANNESBURG - This was some of the evidence against Vorster summed up by treason trial Judge Eben Jordaan yesterday.
The judge has already found nine of the 20 Boeremag accused guilty of high treason and was well on his way to find Vorster guilty as well.
Judge Jordaan found that Vorster, who owned a security company, had continued with the rightwing coup plot dreamed up by Mike du Toit after taking over as leader of the Boeremag in 2002 while Du Toit was being investigated by the police.
Vorster stepped up the plan and declared war on the ANC government.
He drew up a new version of the Blood River oath, made members swear allegiance to the Boeremag cause and handed them a black-tipped bullet, declaring that traitors would be shot.
He also assigned targets, including Parliament, OR Tambo Airport, the ANC’s headquarters and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange for simultaneous bomb attacks.
One witness testified that Vorster even envisioned replacing the Rand with a new Boer currency known as Die Veld.
