Minister's official sent packing

BLOEMFONTEIN - Baloyi had been expected to address delegates to Samwu's national conference, but instead sent director general Charles Nwaila.
The minister's absence created debate from the floor, after the programme announcer wanted to give Nwaila a chance to deliver the minister's message.
She wanted to release Nwaila, who had other engagements for the day.
"We feel much undermined by the minister. The DG? Release him with pleasure," a delegate suggested.
The comment was supported by delegates from various provinces, who indicated the congress did not want to be addressed by an official.
Delegates wanted Baloyi himself to respond to some specific questions.
Some delegates felt Baloyi had squandered his opportunity to speak to workers and should not be accommodated during the four-day congress.
"It's a slap in the face," said a delegate, who also submitted Baloyi's behaviour was equal to workers' treatment inside the tripartite alliance.
No decision was taken as to whether Baloyi would be welcomed at the congress at a later date.
