Payments: DA slams health dept
10 August 2012 | AARIFAH NOSRAKA
JOHANNESBURG - This is according to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Mmusi Maimane who was yesterday accompanied by the DA’s Gauteng Health spokesman Jack Bloom to hand over a memorandum to the Gauteng health department demanding government pay its service providers.
The Department of health and social development contracted Dikolobedi Transport CC to transport medical supplies to government hospitals more than 14 years back.
The owner of Dikolobedi Transport CC, Vorster Rasodi claims that he has not been paid for his services for the last 12-years and has had to close down his business.
Rasodi said: “I was forced to close down in 2004.
I have no job, lost my staff and even my wife. My money’s being eaten by the government.”
According to Bloom, the purpose of handing the memorandum to the department is so that small businesses like Rasodi’s are not hampered.
“The department daily violates the law of payment within 30 days,” said Bloom.
The DA is expected to receive an informal report from the department of health and social development on Monday.
