Three cops killed in Gauteng

JOHANNESBURG - Police spokesman Pinky Tsinyane said the two officers (Warrant Officer Moagi and Constable Tshakela) had reacted to a hijacking call after three suspects shot and wounded their victim.
“A neighbour heard a gun shot and called the police, alerting them to the sound of a gunshot. Seeing the approaching police, the three suspects shot the SA Police Service (SAPS) members in the upper body and they died at the scene,” Tsinyane said.
The suspects stole the police vehicle and used it as a getaway car. It was later abandoned after they hijacked another car.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mzwandile Petros reacted with shock and anger to what he described as the “senseless killing” of police officers.
On Wednesday last week, Constable Eianah Rangani was shot dead and his crew member critically injured while they were conducting a stop and search operation in Hillbrow.
Both groups of suspects are still at large and police appealed to anyone who has information to contact Crime Stop at 08600-10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
