JOHANNESBURG - Bus operators downed tools on Monday this week, demanding equalisation to their salaries as well as back payments on employees’ provident funds.

“We will be going to the Labour Court today, with the aim of obtaining an order which will interdict the strike.

We are hopeful that the court’s decision will go our way today,” Mntambo said.

Regional chairman for the union representing striking bus operators, SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu), Dion Makura said the union would oppose the interdict.

In August last year, about 250 BRT bus drivers went on a strike, demanding a salary of R15 000 a month.

The strike lasted eight weeks and ended with the drivers settling for R6 500.
