LONDON – Double trap shotist Alistair Davis, the youngest member of the South African contingentat the age of 19, got his Olympic campaign under way in the morning with a 15th placed finish in the qualification stage.

Davis managed to rack up a score of 132 points after shooting scores of 43, 43 and 46 in each of his three rounds but in the end it wasn’t enough to see him through to the afternoon’s finals as only the top six advanced to the next round.

In the sailing, Roger Hudson and Asenathi Jim struggled in their first two races yesterday, finishing 20th in race one and 27th in race two. The pair will have a chance to make amends today when they line up in races three and four later on.

Siphiwe Lusizi, who became the first South African boxer to advance to the second round since Sydney 2000, takes part in his second rounds clash. He’s got a chance against Venezuela’s Gabriel Maestre given that both finished fifth at their respective continental championships.

The South African men’s hockey side will be looking to follow up on their 2-2 draw against host nation Great Britain on Wednesday when they take on Spain at the Riverbank Arena tonight and signs have been encouraging that the side are starting to play better hockey as the tournament progresses.

The women's side showed some improvement, albeit in a losing cause, when they went down 2-0 to world No 3 ranked Germany yesterday. Marsha Marescia's side, still to register a point in the competition, created several scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise as goals in the 25th and 44th minute sunk them.
