PSL ‘never dumped’ the First Division

THE Premier Soccer League (PSL) did not dump the National First Division(NFD).

The move to see the country’s second tier   being a standalone is a positive one, says  PSL chairman Irvin Khoza.

“I am surprised by how this decision has been received,” Khoza said.

“The PSL did not dump the NFD. This is more about repositioning it than dumping it.

“It’s not the first time this has happened with regards to this situation.

“We did it before and the results were enormous.”

Talk is rife that Khoza’s organisation decided to dump the first division because it was expensive to maintain.

But Khoza refutes this as unfounded.

“We cannot do that and when this decision was made, all the NFD club bosses were available and accepted it,” he said.

The decision will now see first division teams have their own chairman and their own broadcast rights deal.

But while the rumblings continue in the boardroom, there has been no sign of the release of the coming season’s fixtures for either the PSL and NFD.

“Before the end of the week all that will be solved.

“It can be anytime from now. Clubs had not submitted certain requirements but all that is done now,” Khoza added.
