Surprise package Amatuks’ success no fluke

JOHANNESBURG - “Obviously scoring four goals in one game boosts your confidence,” said Ngoma. “But my aim is to try and score at least one per match. It can’t be a mistake, we are practising very hard and the results have proved that.”
The newly-promoted AmaTuks have made an extraordinary start to their inaugural campaign in top flight football, winning three away games but drawing all three of their home fixtures.
Club captain Tebogo Monyai attributed their success to laying a solid foundation during the pre-season and the determination they carried from the National First Division.
He added that their home ground has proved to be an advantage in most of their encounters.
“History has showed us that since the era of the National First Division, we have performed best in our home games,” Monyai said.
“We have been consistent in our performances and I have always told the guys to keep their feet on the ground.”
AmaTuks refuse to be the stereotype rookies everybody expected them to be, matching the big boys in top-flight.
Coach Steve Barker is confident that his men will continue with their stellar performances as the season progresses.
“The belief and confidence among the players has grown,” said Barker.
“To go away and score five goals against a big team like Ajax last weekend most certainly does give us the confidence and the belief.
“But at the same time, the upcoming game against Pirates is a different game, different opposition and we need to make sure that we keep up the momentum.”
