Battered Bulls side go in as favourites against Western Province

JOHANNESBURG - So tight is the complexion during this business end of the competition that the visitors, currently in third place on 20 points, indeed only have one win and six table points more than their hosts – naturally meaning that victory for the Bulls summarily places them back in contention for a spot in the last-four.
Yet their tag as the side most likely to prevail emanates from some truly good form in the last two weeks, even if the most recent result – a one-point loss in a Durban quagmire – was negative.
Gradually, the Bulls’ prowess in the tight phases and patience in ball-carrying, is returning though the output still tends to go awry.
“A Bulls side is at its most dangerous when it controls the game for most of the time,” said skipper Dewald Potgieter.
“In the last two weeks we’ve found ourselves in situations where we’ve dictated for large chunks of proceedings.
I thought we played really well against the Sharks even though we lost. But that’s what’s pleasing to me, I can see the positive vibe in training. The guys are calm and they’re starting to regain faith in what we’re doing.
“It’s just disappointing that our chances are essentially up. We simply have to win.”
Meanwhile, the Capetonians will be eager to dish out the 42-6 thrashing of the previous encounter but their own inconsistency has dogged them, a major contributor to them losing last week to the table-topping Lions.
