The Rock Raceway in Brakpan will be a busy place this weekend with three separate motorsport disciplines to perform at the venue.

On Saturday afternoon, a derivative of the oval circuit will host a round of the 2011 Japan Auto Drifting Series, with a host of Japanese rear-wheel drive cars laying rubber all around the place.

Rock Raceway’s international drifting team from Mozambique and Kompatipoort will form part of the afternoon’s entertainment.

In the evening there will be a full programme of tar oval racing.

The event will cater for cars in the Micro Midgets, Mini Stox, Saloon Car, Pinto Class, Formula 2 Midgets, Retro Rods, American Saloons and Formula N classes.

The venue gates will be open from 11am with Drifting to start at 3pm.

Admission will cost R40 per adult and R20 per scholar.

The venue will offer another round of its popular Ice and Dice Robot 2 Robot Street Drag Racing series on Sunday.

The racing takes place over the Rock’s 200-metre drag strip, with road cars doing their stuff.

There are no fancy timing systems or handicapping involved – just lots of straight racing, with whoever crosses the line first the winner.

It is good stuff with a  full entry expected.

On both evenings huge heaters on the main grandstand should keep patrons warm, with food and drink on sale.

Admission will cost R30 per adult and R15 per kid, while competing will cost R30 per vehicle.

Gates will open at 4pm and racing will start at 6pm.

To find out more, call the Raceway at 011 740 8315/740 1206 or Abie Sada on 082 453 8271.
