Envy of the depraved
10 August 2012 | RHODA KADALIE
Millions of youth are undereducated and are hence unemployable, but our education system makes it impossible for many to create livelihoods for themselves.
The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in its current form is exploiting this tragic situation and represents one of the surest signs that our education system is failing.
Its call to make Western Cape ungovernable is a bad case of “service delivery envy”. That three feisty women – black, coloured and white – are governing this province with aplomb, and doing a damn good job of it, must be a great provocation to them.
A hard pill for the ANC to swallow, they are doing their damndest to destroy Western Cape.
Given that they have reduced their strongholds – Limpopo and Eastern Cape – to basket cases, they must destroy Western Cape if they cannot capture it through the ballot.
Unable to clean out the rot in the provinces where the ANC governs, they are determined to “take” Western Cape from the Democratic Alliance (DA), as though the province belongs to them.
Eyeing the candy over there, it has always been the ANC’s desire to capture this relatively well-run province because they grudgingly acknowledge that they would never have been able to raise it to the level it has achieved under DA governance.
Their determination to wreck the province and to incite violence is the surest sign of what will happen when the ANC is challenged at the polls by a powerful opposition.
The ANCYL behaves like the uncouth, entitled and uneducated thugs that they are. They are desperately trying to create a 1976 in the Cape and the more they fail, the more desperate they become.
Mayor Patricia de Lille's determination to call their bluff and to use the police to maintain law and order is admirable and we should all come out in support of her.
Frustrated that polls will not go in their favour, the ANCYL, obviously doing the bidding of their parent body, will use undemocratic and violent means to destabilise the province.
The rampant looting and smashing of public property will make the citizens here even more determined to keep the thugs out.
Why does the ANC not focus on delivering textbooks to schools? Why should even the delivery of textbooks be a “tenderpreneur” opportunity?
When I was at school the books were delivered directly to schools by the publishing firms. Today, even this is a money-making exercise.
Ye who cannot deliver textbooks to schoolchildren, who need them most, cannot govern!
And what about Eastern Cape, the bastion of ANC-dom? What is happening there? Not one municipality there received a clean audit.
In 2009 the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs declared six district municipalities disaster areas due to the shocking state of their water and sanitation infrastructure, and one of the municipalities affected is Buffalo City Metro.
The waste-water treatment plants are under threat simply because of the 48% vacancy rates.
So, ANCYL, remove the log from your eyes before you judge Western Cape.
Your governance is found wanting!
