According to the Pretoria News, the Minister said Gauteng public health facilities are in a state of collapse and failing to deliver quality healthcare to patients after tender irregularities   worth billions depleted the available resources.

Motsoaledi lays much of the blame on the   awarding of dubious tenders  for expenses not directly related to health- care, leaving insufficient funds for core functions.

“They bought nice-to- haves, leaving no money for the essentials and resulting in the department being unable to pay for accruals and creditors.”

The abysmal state of  public hospitals is no secret, especially in Gauteng, where the province’s busiest politician, the DA’s Jack Bloom, keeps up an almost daily barrage of news about shortcomings.

Shortages caused by tender crooks are not the only problem. Attitude is another big one. There’s a lot that needs fixing before national health insurance is inflicted on us.
