DURBAN – Nigerian defender Sani Keita has received death threats that have the Nigerian Football Association and their government looking to beef up team security for the remainder of their World Cup stay at their Richard’s Bay training base. The 24-year-old Keita seems to be the scapegoat of their crucial 1-0 loss to Greece on Thursday after he was sent off for lashing out at Greek defender Vasileious Torosidis. The team’s media officer, Idah Peterside, said Keita had received “over a thousand” threatening e-mails. It has also forced the minister of sport and chairman of the national sports commission, Abdulrahman Gimba, to join the team in South Africa as they attempt to get the world governing soccer body, Fifa, to give the team more protection. “We are taking this very seriously,” Peterside told The Citizen yesterday morning. “The Nigerian government is making an inquiry into this matter, and is currently in discussion with Fifa over matters regarding security around the team and Keita. “The sports minister from our country is here with us sorting it out. Also, there are plans in place for taking care of the player’s safety once we return home.” Peterside added that Keita was feeling “all right” since he “is among friends here (at the camp)”. The deeply religious Keita, who is a Muslim, plays his football for AS Monaco in France and on Saturday, admitted to the threats to German media, saying “it is only God who decides who lives and dies, and he holds my destiny”. “I hope we could win our next game against South Korea in order for us to proceed towards the next round where I can get a chance to redeem my image and good performance,” said Keita. |

Now coming to football, that brings the whole nation together is nothing to write home about. Can you imagine our boys performance in south africa, is that not enough for any nigerian to go mad with the players and officials.
What i am suggesting to the federal government to do to our national team and their officials is to refund the huge amount of money given to them before the world cup in south africa, or face ...Efcc.There big disgrace to the nation, they can go to heel and drop dead.

we have a country where the few steal everything we have together in the name of leadership, and how many threats have they gotten? please leave Keita alone to represent his country and that's all he wanted to do.

I am with the school of thought that suggests total ban on our so-called professionals. NFA should focus on bringing local boys together. There are over a million local players who are better than our so-called professionals
The adminnistration must find a way to eliminate bribe in team slections ...which is realy eating up the NFA
