Badplaas atm bombed

JOHANNESBURG - Two cars reported hijacked in Gauteng were recovered at the Nhlazatshe crossing complex near Badplass following an ATM blast on Wednesday morning, Mpumalanga police said.

Captain Leonard Hlathi said police were called to the scene after witnesses saw an unknown number of men pacing up and down an FNB Automated Teller Machine at around 3am.

“When police arrived at the scene, the men, who had already detonated and bombed the ATM, opened fire at them... and a shootout ensued,” said Hlathi.

The men then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money taken from the blasted ATM, leaving behind a white VW Polo and a silver grey Mazda3 believed to have been used to get to the scene.

Two police vehicles were damaged during the shootout but no one was injured.

No arrests have been made, said Hlathi.
