The Animal Anti-Cruelty League has many different animals (primarily dogs and cats) looking for homes.

Our animals may have once been strays, owned by a family or individual or have been confiscated. We also tend to get in mostly unwanted/unplanned litters of puppies, which are also cross breeds and occasionally we have a pure breed puppy or two.

Our cats are generally short or long haired domestic cats.

We will give you as much history on the animal as provided to us, as well as what we observed in the kennels/cattery.

Our chief inspector is also an animal behaviorist and we like to make sure that the animal selected is suitable for you, your family and any pets on your property.

We encourage dogs introductions before adoption but do request that appointments be made for this.

We generally first inspect peoples properties before a dog adoption is done to ensure that:

a) the property is secure with no obvious missing fences, gates, open holes or drains through which a dog could escape.

b) the height and type of the wall/perimeter fencing will keep the required size animal in.

c) that the space will allow the animal to conform to natural behavior as far as possible.

d) the animal(s) already on the property are cared for with adequate food, water and shelter provided.

e) that the grass is maintained (ticks and fleas love medium to long grass)

We do charge R40 for teh inspection and our inspectors generally are able to do it withing 24-48 hours.

Please note that the property is passed for the size of animal that is required, not a specific breed, the money is non-refundable and that we work on a first come first serve basis and do not book animals.

The property inspection in valid from 3 months to a year providing you are still on the same property with no major alterations to the perimeter.

We charge an adoption fee for all our animals which covers sterilisation, one vaccination, a rabies vaccination if the animal is over 4 months of age, deworming, an identity disc and three weeks of free vetinary treatment at our hospital in consulting hours should your pet become ill.

Puppies/kittens requiring a second vaccination at the time of adoption can received one for an additional R60.

Microchips are also offered as permanent identification at an additional R90.

Adoption costs:

- cats/kittens : R135

- small breed puppy/adult : R185

- medium size puppy/adult : R220

-large breed puppy/adult : R300

We encourage people to come and see our facilities and the animals in our care as the choice of a pet is a very personal one.

A pet should be part of your family whether is an inside or outside animal. We do not home watchdogs, but rather pets that have intergrated into the family, will possible/hopefully develope their protective instinct towards you and your family.

Should you have any questions or quesries, please feel free to contact us on (011) 435 0672 or visit us at 59 Alice Street, regents Park (behind Multiflora Flower Basket)
