Things are hotting up... and change is afoot PDF Print E-mail

I’ve always had a keen fascination for seasons, not just the climatic changes we experience, but those in life too.

Most often I think we, yes I include myself in this gross generalisation, place far too much importance on things staying the same because we are comfortable with what we know. But if we looked more closely at changes, I can assure you we would see what we have to gain when things change rather than what we have lost. This is true not just of miniscule, seemingly insignificant changes; but those big deal, life-changing ones too. A new job, a new home, a new city, a new boss, a new baby, a new car, a new outlook... you get the picture.

In-keeping with the global seasonal change, I have decided to stop resisting change and learn to go with the flow more. After all what is the point of kicking against the inevitable? Would that energy not be better put to use embracing the change and the opportunities it brings instead of shackling ourselves to what is no more? I am willing to bet that if we all try this for one month, our lives will improve dramatically. I dare you to take me up on this bet!

In that vein, finally winter seems to be relenting and making way for life as we know it nine months of the year here in South Africa. Along with this vast climate improvement, things are hotting up in the casino lifestyle arena too. New shows are opening, casinos are undergoing facelifts, gaming floors are bustling with exciting new promotions and poker tournaments are under way. The downside to all this activity is managing our diaries to ensure we don’t miss out on any part of the exciting action.

We have made every effort to keep you updated within the pages of CitiGaming, but I have also included a remedy for the busy lifestyle we lead in my review on Silverstar’s Soulstice Spa.

While the outside temperature is rising, the winners of last week’s reader competition in which tickets to the Nando’s Jozi Comedy Festival at Montecasino were up for grabs will bear witness to the roof being raised with the comedic talents showcased there this week. Congratulations to: Sean Jordaan, Vanessa Spaull, Veronica Christianse, Mooshtak Ghansar and Pierre Keune.

This week’s reader competition puts 10 lucky readers in line to win a set of double tickets to Groet to Grotman at Emperors Palace on Thursday, August 5. See inside this week’s issue for details on how to enter.
