New era for market

ALEISHA TISSEN

JOHANNESBURG - Selling one million tons of fresh fruit and vegetables annually, the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market has over the past century become an integral part of the city.

It launched its new name and logo yesterday, while a lavish celebration noted the 2010 Fifa World Cup being under 200 days away.

The market will now be known as the Joburg Market, with the new logo expected to extend the market’s reach even further afield.

Joburg Market CEO Kgosientso “Sputla” Ramokgopa, said the globe on the new logo denotes the arena in which the Joburg Market plays.

“The leafy part on top... serves to reflect the market’s fresh produce...

“The logo makes great use of a gold yellowish colour and this serves to reflect on the rich gold history that Joburg is famous for,” he said.
