Payfine now set for cellphones

CITIZEN REPORTER

JOHANNESBURG - Thanks to technology, motorists are now able to pay their fines using their cellphones when at a road-block.

David Reynders, managing director of Pocit, said yesterday: “Payfine users are being offered an additional channel – cellphone payments as opposed to web-based payments, including the ability to pay remotely without needing a credit card.

“You can pay from your bank account, credit card or from Pocit Money – the virtual money store on Pocit that provides access to instant payments.”

The initiative is spearheaded by Pocit and Payfine.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s (JMPD) Director: Licensing and Traffic Prosecution, Gerrie Gerneke, said: “JMPD fully supports this new mobile application, as it extends the convenience of www.payfine.co.za to the cellphone market.”

Regions which are currently covered by Pocit and Payfine are:

Johannesburg Metro.

The City of Cape Town.

Free State Province.

Mogale City.

Paarl.

Stellenbosch.

Zeerust.

Reynders further added: “You need to do download the application and register with Pocit by visiting www.pocit.mobi on your cellphone.

“Once you’re registered with us and have added and validated a payment instrument (ie credit card and/or bank account), all you have to do to pay a fine is go to the relevant menu option. Because our system already knows your SA ID number, it will automatically check for outstanding fines against your name.

“Pocit will reflect any outstanding fines which can then be paid on the spot.”

For more information about this new system, you can either visit

www.pocit.mobi, www.pocit.co.za

or call 086-007-6248 during office hours.
