World Cup tickets on sale soon

STEVEN TAU and SAPA

JOHANNESBURG - South Africans who are yet to apply for 2010 Fifa World Cup tickets will soon be given another chance to do so.

The third ticket-selling phase will run from December 5 until January 22 next year.

2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Danny Jordaan has once again urged South Africans to buy tickets.

Earlier this week Jordaan said while we have the best representation in next year’s soccer spectacle with six of the best African countries, substantial support for “the best African countries” was vital.

“Don’t wait, go buy the tickets,” Jordaan advised locals, who will be able to pick up tickets for as little as R140 each.

“This will be the cheapest World Cup ticket ever,” Jordan said yesterday at a 2010 ticketing media information session.

The LOC wants to ensure that all tickets for Bafana Bafana matches are sold out.

Here are important things fans need to know prior to applying for World Cup tickets:

n Application forms for the tickets can be downloaded on www.fifa.com or obtain them at First National Bank (FNB) outlets.

n You can buy tickets for friends and family members, as long as you stick to the “four tickets per individual household” rule.

You will need the full name, ID or passport number, nationality and date of birth of each guest you wish to include within your application.

n A person can apply for a maximum of four tickets per match and a maximum of seven matches throughout the tournament.

n The ticket prizes vary depending on the category of a ticket (categories 1 to 4) and the match.

All category 4 tickets are the most affordable and are exclusively available for South African residents, and the prizes range from R140 up to R1 050 for the final.

A draw for successful applications will be held on February 1 next year.

The fourth sales phase which will be open between February 9 and April 7 next year will be on a first- come first-served basis.
