TV personality Vuyo off the hook

PULENG MASHABANE

JOHANNESBURG - An assault case against well-known television personality Vuyo Mbuli was thrown out of the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The SABC 2 Morning Live presenter was on the South African Police Service’s list of wanted suspects and handed himself over to the police yesterday before appearing in court.

Mbuli appeared briefly before the court after being accused of assaulting Pat Legwabe.

Police spokesman, Inspector Lorraine van Emmerik, yesterday said outstanding information was obtained and the prosecutor refused to prosecute the case saying there was no reason to pursue the matter.

Legwabe alleged that Mbuli hit him with a vase.

The incident in question occurred on Monday night at Thabisa Nyamakazi’s house in Winchester Hills, Johannesburg. Nyamakazi is Legwabe’s girlfriend. Legwabe apparently found Mbuli and Nyamakazi in their bedroom.

Legwabe alleged that Mbuli was still putting his shirt on and Nyamakazi was only dressed in lingerie and a gown.

Mbuli had since denied assaulting Legwabe, but admitted being in the house that night for “personal reasons”.

During an interview on Talk Radio 702 yesterday after his case was dropped in court, Mbuli said he believed he had done nothing wrong.

“I always believed that I had done nothing wrong and I was confident that going into court I would be vindicated, and that is what happened,” he said.
