No Prius recall yet: Toyota SA

JOHANNESBURG - It was too early to say whether local units of the Prius would be included in the international recall of the vehicle, Toyota South Africa said on Tuesday.

Spokesman Leo Kok said the company was still waiting for instructions from Toyota in Japan on whether the local version of the hybrid vehicle would be included.

“It was only just announced in Japan and we are still waiting for information on how it will affect other regions outside of Japan,” said Kok.

He said the company planned to hold a press conference at its Johannesburg headquarters on Wednesday about the recall’s affect on local customers.

“We would then be able to provide information on the Prius as well,” he said.

Toyota announced on Tuesday it was recalling about 437,000 Prius and other hybrid cars worldwide to fix brake problems.
