Malema's comments not a call for youth to take up arms: Zuma

JOHANNESBURG - The comments made by ANC Youth League president Julius Malema on June 16, were not a call for the youth to take up arms, ANC president Jacob Zuma said on Wednesday.

Zuma said the ANCYL president had explained that his statements were not a call to the youth to engage in criminal or violent behaviour.

“It cannot be correct for anyone to incite any section of our society to violence or to commit murder, for any reason whatsoever. We are in agreement with the Youth League in this regard.

Zuma was speaking at Leadership magazine’s “Tomorrow’s Leaders” convention in Pretoria.

“The ANC Youth League has assured us that it has not wavered from the principles enshrined in the Constitution and as ANC members and leaders, and we will not do anything to jeopardise the gains we have made since 1994,” Zuma said.

He referred to the current situation in the ANC after media reported a crisis within the party.

“We do face challenges as the ANC, dating back many years. The Polokwane conference in 2007, will indicate the organisational problems relating to ill-discipline and general erosion of the value system amongst some members of the movement.

“At the conference we took resolutions to work for organisational renewal, and to eradicate ill discipline and thuggery where it rears its ugly head,” said Zuma.

He said the ANC would succeed in this regard as the majority of ANC members were disciplined and loyal cadres.

According to the ANC, the party had an unwavering support for the rule of law, as well as the independence of the judiciary and respect for the country’s criminal justice system.

“While we may have some outstanding issues with some elements within the criminal justice system, that does not mean we intend to resort to any unconstitutional means to fight back,” Zuma said.

Honestly speaking what did the ANC and the honourable Zuma anticipate. Obviously a man of his Stature would be tried by the media..., it should not be a shock...,Bill Clinton went through this when the revelations of his extra marital affairs surfaced. you cant expect everybody to be quiet.., people have opinions and they will voice them out. That is a celebration of their freedom. Now the sentiments expressed by Mbalula's succesor and the perception that Mr Zuma wont get a fair trial are already evidence that they are not just ready to kill but have already began because they are telling the world that the media and the justice systems of the country are not credible...

whatever Malema said on june 16 it was not a platform to promote their pety party politics.there are credible leaders who shed their blood for this freedom, the likes of ROBERT SOBUKWE,STEVE BIKO,TSIETSI MASHININI in case you forget them.stop your stupid circus, we want real leaders not clowns.

On 702 this morning the deputy Pres of the ANC denounced Malema's statement, saying they will investigate what action to take against him. JZ tacitly supports the statement by not denouncing it, but by trying to explain it away, thus justifying it. Does he think the public are stupid. We all heard what Malema aid and he confirmed it on 702 the day after. Don't insult us JZ and pretend he did not mean it.Malema should be removed as ANCYL pres. Makes you wonder why JZ is supporting Malema after this evil words.

How does the Honourable President of the ANC explain the words, 'Take Arms and Kill for ZUma"?

They must not play politics with us as the citezens. This guy said, they are prepared to kill for ZUma and, the question is who is going to be killed?

Looking at the problems in all the ANC Branch meetings recently, they have a long way to go in instailling discipline to the arrogant big mouth so called Youth Leaders and even the ANC leaders themselves.

Oh Help us Oh God.
