Three held for rape in Thabong

PRETORIA - Three men have been arrested in Thabong near Welkom for the rape of two girls, Free State police said on Monday.

Sergeant Malebo Khosana said the three were arrested on Sunday after they allegedly raped the girls on Saturday afternoon.

He said the two girls, aged 13 and 16, were on their way home when four men threatened them with a knife and dragged them to a shack in N1, Thabong.

After raping the girls, the men escorted them to Sunrise in the same vicinity of N1 and warned that if the girls reported the matter to the police, their friends would deal with them.

Three of the men were arrested on Sunday and the fourth was still at large.

“He will be arrested soon as he is known to the police. The three suspects will remain in police custody pending their court appearance at Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday,” Khosana said.
