Daveyton’s own shoe care service
Daveyton - Cleaning shoes is serious business for Lethabo Mokoena (24), founder of the Walk Fresh Sneaker Cleaning and Shoe Care Co.
The corporate communications graduate explains the idea for his shoe care business came to him when a friend’s brother asked him to wash his sneakers and he saw an opportunity to make money from it.
He started the business a month ago with his childhood friends Thabang Nkadimeng (25), Ali Mosokwa (26) and Tsolofelo Tlobolo (27).
The business is still in it’s early stages – they service around 14 pairs of shoes a day and work from Nkadimeng’s home.
They offer various services including sneaker cleaning, leather shoe care and polishing, suede and nubuck cleaning, as well as maintenance and colour correction and changing.
Clients have the option of dropping off their shoes and having them delivered to their doorstep for a fee.
This only applies to clients who live in and around Daveyton.
The entrepreneurs are self-taught and do their own research about shoe and sneaker care.
Mokoena explains he wants to have franchises of the company around the country.
“We have big plans for the business, and at the moment we are building our client database and making people aware of the services we are rendering,” says Mokoena.
He adds they will soon need bigger premises and more capital to sustain the business.
