Despite the Selection Park pool in Springs and the Faranani pool in Tsakane reopening on September 1, the CoE said it would close the pools after September 13.

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini stated that the challenge at the Tsakane pool is that all the available acid has been used, and HTH was applied to keep the water safe.

He added that chlorine gas is still urgently needed, and the surrounding area requires grass-cutting.

He said, “Quotations for chlorine gas are in progress, and the Parks & Cemeteries division has been asked to assist with maintenance.”

The Faranani pool is operational, but ongoing use depends on the timely delivery of chlorine gas and acid. Dlamini said that the Selection Park pool closed due to a shortage of chlorine gas and that the grass-cutting was not yet complete.

He said procurement processes for chlorine gas are underway, with mini-store quotations in progress.

“The Environmental Resources and Waste Management Department (Parks and Cemeteries division) has been asked to assist with grass maintenance,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini added that the timeframe for the closure on September 13 would depend on the chlorine supply.

“We are working to address the logistical, staffing and maintenance challenges facing our pools. Our goal remains to provide safe and enjoyable recreational facilities for the community.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we implement the necessary measures to get all pools up and running,” said Dlamini.
