Hostage drama ends at Aspen Hills

The hijacked woman was driven around in the boot of her car for hours.

ASPEN HILLS: A woman was hijacked in Randfontein on Tuesday October 8, was bundled into the boot of the vehicle and held hostage for hours as the suspects drove around in the black GWM C10.

According to WO Officer Gordon Billing (cluster media liaison officer) the hijacked car was picked up by the Netstar helicopter on Kliprivier Drive and followed to the turn off for Aspen Hills, where the vehicle was apprehended by Gauteng Flying Squad, JMPD (Johannesburg Metro Police Department) and SAPS. D&D Tactical and Aspen Estate management provided support to the woman and the police.

As the vehicle was stopped three suspects jumped out and ran towards Aspen Hills. A chase ensued with one suspect being shot and the other two captured. The suspect who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital.

The traumatised forty-year-old woman was removed from the boot of the car and taken to Netcare Mulbarton Hospital, where she was examined for injuries. She sustained bruising to her neck and upper arms, cuts on her knees and was complaining of her back being sore. She was discharged later in the evening.

Two BB guns were confiscated on the scene.

“The police really have to be commended on their sterling effort,” said one of Aspen Hills management committee.
