Residents Action Group helps secure future for local learners
RAG donated R10 000 and goods to Vryburger High School, supporting children from Makause and surrounding areas who face financial hardship but continue to succeed academically.
Reflecting its commitment to uplifting young lives, Bedfordview non-profit security organisation Residents Action Group (RAG) donated R10 000 to Vryburger High School in Dawnview.
RAG doubled the R5 000 donated by caring community members by matching it with their own contribution.
The cheque was officially handed over to Vryburger High School principal Stephanie Diedericks at a special assembly on September 2.

Vryburger High School was originally built for 400 learners but now educates 780, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
They include children from the Makause Informal Settlement and from child-headed households.
Only around five learners per class can afford school fees. The school provides daily meals to children who would otherwise go hungry. Despite these challenges, Vryburger High School boasts a 93% matric pass rate.
RAG chairperson Anjela da Silva said, “Education is the gateway to upliftment and a positive future.Vryburger High School has educated many children from many areas, including Bedfordview, Primrose, Dawnview and Makause, and continues to do an incredible job in developing young people who will lead their communities and our country. This school deserves our support and investment in our children’s future.”

The RAG team also handed over food and other items that were donated by generous residents.
Da Silva thanked everyone who contributed to RAG’s Vryburger High School fundraiser.
“I am honoured to be able to say that while RAG has earned a reputation for securing properties, this donation will help to secure futures,” she stated.
