Young goalkeeper learning the value of money by raising funds for Madeira football tour
He is one of 20 boys selected from four Sporting Club Portugal Teams (Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Rustenburg and Pretoria).
Connor Swatton (10), a Grade Five learner at St Dunstan’s Prepatory College and goalkeeper, has been selected to represent the Sporting Club Portugal Academy for South Africa at the International Tournament Maritimo Centenario in Funchal, Madeira from April 11 to 21.
“As this is a great opportunity for him to learn about money (that you have to work for your money), we have decided that we as parents will pay for his tour, but, he will need to raise his own funds for his goalkeeper kit, team uniform and spending money,” said his mother Nicole.
The Farrarmere resident has managed to find a sponsor that has donated a mom’s bag hamper as well as a children’s bag hamper for raffle, sponsored by Chicken Mouse Designs, and is also willing to wash peoples’ cars or walk their dogs, with parental guidance.
The mom’s hamper is R30 per ticket while the children’s hamper is R10 per ticket.
If you would like to assist the youngster, contact his mother Nicole on 083 260 1846 or email to [email protected].
