Flying squad nabs wanted thief
Investigations are continuing as the unit ramp up its fight against crime.
Routine operations conducted by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) led to the arrest of a suspect possibly linked to various cases of theft out of motor vehicles.
On August 22, officers were deployed to Impala Park, Boksburg, to assist a local security company that had cornered the 40-year-old man travelling in a white Toyota Etois.
“Monitored community cameras flagged the vehicle’s registration number as it entered the area, which led to the suspect’s swift arrest,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.
“Upon his arrest and a search of the vehicle, two suspected stolen laptops, three jamming devices, two filed Allen keys and falsified registration plates were found.”
The suspect has been positively linked to a case of attempted theft out of a motor vehicle, in Bedfordview, in 2020 as well as a case of being in possession of stolen property, in Sebenza.
“The suspect’s vehicle was impounded and a full investigation is underway to ascertain whether he can be linked to other cases,” said Giblin.
As weekly operations continued, BFS officers arrested two women in Brakpan.
A 21-year-old woman was arrested in Germans Road, on August 23, after she was found in possession of meth.
Following the arrest of a 28-year-old man, on July 31 and August 14 after he was found in possession of a home-made pipe gun, a 31-year-old woman was arrested on August 24 when she was found in possession of a .38 special live round.

Investigations have intensified to find a possible link between the two suspects as well as that of a 47-year-old man, who was arrested on August 8 in Victoria Street, for being in possession of two live rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.
According to Giblin, it is suspected that the four arrests may be related to the manufacturing of pipe guns in the area.
