Durban High School

Durban High School celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2016 and a year of hugely successful celebrations ended with the opening of the Chris Seabrooke Music Centre and work beginning on the refurbishment of the Science Block into a state- of-the-art, newly furnished Maths & Science Centre.

The transformation of the existing Science Block into the Victor Daitz Mathematics and Science Centre is due to be completed in early February, with the official opening being held on 22 February.  This magnificent upgrade has been sponsored by a very generous donation of R5.1m from the Victor Daitz Foundation, a humanitarian organization which supports a wide spectrum of causes and uplifts the lives of many South Africans.  The Centre boasts an auditorium, science laboratories and redecorated classrooms, all fitted with data projectors and IT connectivity. Some of the new classrooms are already being used for lessons, much to the delight of the learners

The Music Centre, sponsored by DHS Old Boy and Chairman of the DHS Foundation Trust, Chris Seabrooke, is also a repurposed building with existing spaces converted into soundproofed practice rooms, a project recording studio, and an auditorium that houses a Yamaha baby grand piano!  This facility will be a platform for young musicians to grow their talent.

To view these new additions and all that the School has to offer, the Durban High School Open Evening for prospective parents and learners will be held on Wednesday 15 February at 17h30 for 18h00, in the DC Thompson Hall.
