St Giles honours women
Women were treated to a Women's Day celebration by St Giles Association for the Handicapped.

STAFF and volunteers from Saint Giles Association for the Handicapped were treated to a light breakfast and inspirational talk by Kantha Naidoo, FNB head of customer services to celebrate International Women’s Day on Thursday, 8 August.
Kantha spoke to staff about her battle with losing the sight in her one eye.
She started working for FNB at the request of the branch manager and has performed all the roles in a branch environment, becoming the first Indian woman to be promoted to the role of an admin manager in KZN. She went on to perform other managerial roles and set up the Foreign Exchange Operations Centre in Durban. This led to her being promoted to National Head of International Banking Centres, based in Johannesburg.
“During this time, I always enjoyed good health and my pride was the fact that I had 20/20 vision. This changed during my second year in Johannesburg and I developed a condition called uveitis. The treatment of the condition created other problems as the medication was primarily cortisone. However, I persevered with the treatment and still kept on with my job as the condition in my opinion was treatable and therefore temporary. However, this was not the case, and a rare viral occurrence resulted in irreversible damage to the eye. I am still working, and enjoying the daily challenges of my role. However, the greater challenge has been coming to terms with the loss of vision in one eye and learning to deal with the changes that this has brought on,” she said.
The women enjoyed coffee, tea and eats before visitors were taken on a tour of this remarkable association.
