Feeding scheme appeals for help

Staple foods, vegetables and funding is needed to keep the Carrots and Peas Kitchen at Kenneth Gardens operational.

CARROTS and Peas Kitchen, based at Kenneth Gardens, has been operating a feeding scheme in Umbilo and surrounding areas since 2010. The kitchen feeds people from Ward 33, as well as from the Mayville and Dalton areas. Many of these are children, elderly, disabled and unemployed persons in dire need of help. The kitchen supplies cooked meals three times a week to about 300 people and also feeds a number of residents and children at Flamingo Court in Umbilo Road.

Carrots and Peas Kitchen receives no assistance from government and relies on the generosity of the public for donations in cash or kind.

The kitchen is in urgent need of a regular supply of groceries, in particular rice, maize meal, samp, dry beans, cooking oil and vegetables. Two of its major expenses are gas and transport and funding is needed to pay for these.

Carrots and Peas Kitchen appeals to all potential donors to support this worthy cause. For enquiries contact Zandile on 031 205 5606, Joyce on 031 205 6789 or Norma on 031 312 5339.
