Adopt a room

Adopt a room at the Durban Child and Youth Care Centre and give the children's lives a lift.

THE Durban Child and Youth Care Centre first launched the Adopt a Room initiative in 2010.

This initiative has given individuals, student groups, companies and service organisations the opportunity to make a real difference in the children’s lives through volunteering their time, effort and resources into creating special spaces for the children in the centre’s care.

Over the years, the Adopt a Room initiative has transformed the “old” into “new”. The home’s interior has been given a new lease of life which has enabled management to turn the organisation into a place which 74 orphaned and vulnerable children can refer to as a “loving home”.

“We sincerely thank all our friends who have adopted a room in the past years, and now appeal to companies and members of the community to reach out and assist us maintain these spaces by adopting bedrooms or communal areas such as the kitchens, lounges and hallways in any of our five residential units which require revamping. Ancient buildings and 74 active children make on-going TLC a requirement,” said Thina Hlophe, resource developer. This would be a wonderful opportunity for you to use this initiative as a team building exercise while also helping to meet the needs of the organisation.
