New mouthpiece aims to improve police-community relations

Motaung was previously stationed at Mondeor SAPS, where she worked as a detective before she was transferred to Reiger Park a few years ago.

The newly appointed Reiger Park police station’s mouthpiece Const Zanele Motaung is working towards strengthening partnership between the police and the community, and to help improve service delivery in the area.

The officer recently took up her new position as a spokesperson, replacing communications officer Const Jan Mokwana, who has been assigned to other duties.

The Ekurhuleni-born and bred woman officer said apart from keeping the communities within her precinct well informed on what happens around them as far as crime and other community matters are concerned, she will also be involved in a programme aimed at improving mutual relations and trust between the members of the public and the law enforcement agency.

“To win the war against crime, we definitely need the community. Improving the quality of policing in our area requires participation from all parties, including community leaders and other stakeholders,” explained Motaung. .

Her almost two years of service in Reiger Park has seen her receiving numerous accolades, including the category: Best Arresting Female Officer. While working as a detective in Mondeor, Motaung secured a 15-year-sentence handed down to a house break-in accused.

Motaung matriculated at Hulwazi Secondary School in Daveyton. She later graduated as an officer at the police academy in Tshwane in 2015.
