Try these 3 homemade body scrubs for glowing skin

For youthful and radiant skin, try the following inexpensive DIY body scrubs:

On average, the human body loses about 200 000 000 skin cells an hour. These can build up on the skin, causing new cells to regenerate slower, thus making the skin look dull and unhealthy. To prevent this, regular exfoliation is recommended by dermatologists and estheticians. You don’t even have to spend a fortune on exfoliation. Instead of purchasing products, you can create your own body exfoliation scrubs.

Have a look at the following affordable body scrubs that you can easily make at home:

For all the scrubs below, make sure you have a mixing bowl, spoons, measuring cups, a carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil (or any other oil), a sealable container, and a few drops of essential oil (this is optional).

1. Brown sugar body scrub

If you have sensitive skin, this brown sugar scrub is perfect for you. It’s quite gentle on the skin, especially compared to scrubs that include Epsom or sea salt. A downside of using the brown sugar scrub is that it might make your skin sticky if you don’t rinse properly.

Added to that, if your home tends to attract a lot of ants, they’ll swarm to the area the scrub was used it, so make sure you rinse thoroughly after use.

What you need:

  • Half a cup of oil (a carrier oil of your choice)
  • Half a cup of brown sugar
  • An essential oil with a great aroma (this is optional)

How to make the brown sugar body scrub:

  • Mix the oil and brown sugar in a mixing bowl
  • You can more sugar if there’s too much oil and vice versa. Be sure to get the consistency right
  • Add a few drops of essential oil
  • Place it in a container

And that’s it! Your brown sugar body scrub is now ready for use.

2. Coffee scrub

Not only is coffee all the rave because of its ability to give you an energy boost when you need it, but it works quite well in body scrubs.  It’s gentle on the skin while still removing dead skin cells and added to that, it smells incredible!

All you need to make a coffee body scrub is:

  • Half a cup of ground coffee
  • A tablespoon of hot water
  • A tablespoon of warm coconut oil

How to make a coffee body scrub:

  • Mix the 2 tablespoons of hot water and the ground coffee in a mixing bowl
  • Add the coconut oil. You can add more of either of the ingredients listed for a good consistency.
  • Add the mixture into a container

You’ll have smoother, healthier and radiant skin in no time!

3. Sea salt scrub

If your skin is very sensitive, you might want to pass on this one. Sea salt scrubs tend to be rougher on the skin than other types of exfoliants due to the nature of the granules. The benefits of sea salt scrubs is that salt is known for its antibacterial properties, which is great for treating certain skin conditions. Added to that, your salt scrub won’t expire seeing that salt is a preservative.

To make a sea salt scrub you’ll need:

  • Half a cup of sea salt
  • Half a cup of oil
  • An essential oil

How to make a sea salt scrub:

  • Add the sea salt and oil in a mixing bowl
  • Make sure you experiment with the ingredients to get the right consistency
  • Add a few drops of essential oil
  • Store your scrub in a container

Use this sea salt scrub once a week and watch your skin transform for the better!   If you’re looking for more radiant and healthy skin, you should consider making and using any one of the DIY body scrubs above.
