Local beauty dazzles at pageant

Miss Rainbow Nation is an excellent opportunity and platform for hardworking, young girls who would like to make a difference in their community.

Local beauty pageant contestant Charné van Emmenis was recently crowned Junior Miss Rainbow Nation.

The 17-year-old Hoërskool Stoffberg learner bagged the title at a glittering ceremony held in Kempton Park.

Miss Rainbow Nation is hosted each year by Pageants SA and is an excellent opportunity and platform for hardworking, young girls who would like to make a difference in their community.

The sophisticated blonde has already started making a difference.

During National Arbor Week, Charné paid a visit to Laerskool Die President and Alston Primary School in Germiston, where she planted an evergreen viburnum tree at each school.

“I chose this specific tree because it can grow up to 20 feet tall, which means it will have a great amount of shade for the learners to enjoy and it has a unique smell,” Charné said.

The warm-hearted girl also decided to sponsor a less fortunate 14-year old boy from the Free State.

He received his colours for rugby and Charné asked friends and family to assist with donations for him.

“Winning this title is a dream come true,” she said.

“Every opportunity I get to help someone, I will do so.

“I won’t be sticking to a single charity, but would rather spread the love by helping many.”

The youngster also has her own charity organisation called Charné’s Comfort Teddy.

She collects teddy bears throughout the year, which she then donates to terminally ill children in state hospitals over December.

The talented model, who is also a keen dancer, aspires to take her modelling career to the next level and hopes to represent South Africa overseas once she turns 18.
